Médecins Sans Frontières - France is looking for Yemeni nationals to recruit in
Aden for the following position:
Antibiotic Stewardship Medical Doctor
Location: Aden.
Contract duration: 6 Months.
Contract type: Full time contract.
Report to (Hierarchical): Project Medical Referent.
Reports to (Functional): Project Medical Referent.
MAIN PURPOSE:
Implement and lead the antibiotic stewardship program in
orthopedic unit in Al gomourhia hospital in Aden.
KEY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide
real-time review and feedback on inpatient antibiotic orders/prescriptions
- Suggest
changes to optimize choice of antibiotics in individual patients, dose,
duration or route based on MSF protocols and individual microbiology
results when available
- Collaborate
with MSF/ MoH multidisciplinary team, including medical doctors (GPs and
surgeons), nurses, pharmacy team, microbiology lab, and any other involved
in the rational prescription and distribution of antibiotics, infection
prevention and control and diagnose of nosocomial infections
- Provide
training for medical and paramedical staff on appropriate antibiotic use,
and its toxicities, side effects, contraindications, drugs interactions,
appropriate route and appropriate monitoring for patients receiving
antibiotics.
- Support
all related activities including hospital infection control and surgical
site infection follow-up
- Deliver
monthly reports documenting antibiotic stewardship processes, outcomes and
constraints, proposing solutions and improvements.
- Perform
daily follow up of suspected infected cases and chart review, being a link
between the different teams to differentiate colonization from infection.
- Perform
close follow up of isolated patients. Daily support for IPD doctors in
charge of isolated patients.
- Liaise
with the laboratory and the medical team to ensure that proper samples
collected and sent to the laboratory and the results provided back from
the lab accordingly.
- Increase
awareness towards MDR organisms including its characteristics, mechanism
of resistance, ways of transmission, infectivity and best way of
management in different correlated syndromes considering the most frequent
MDR organisms in the unit and using different educational tools.
- Coordination
& Research: Collaborate with the PMR to share findings with
stakeholders and lead surveys on antibiotic use and nosocomial infections.
- Infection
Control: Support the IPC nurse in hygiene surveillance and develop adapted
guidelines for infection control and antibiotic use.
- Data
Management: Help develop specific data collection tools essential for
project monitoring.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Degree in Medicine.
Experience
- At
least four years’ experience as a medical doctor.
- At
least two years of experience as Antibiotic Stewardship Doctor within MSF
or other NGOs is required.
- Proven
experience with training of doctors and other medical professionals on
antibiotic use.
- Proven
experience in involvement and participation in medical research.
Languages: Fluent in Arabic and English, both
written and spoken.
Technical Knowledge
- Essential
computer literacy (Word, Excel) and familiarity with MSF protocols and
practices.
