Job Summary
The Medical Doctor is responsible for delivering integrated
primary healthcare services at the assigned Mobile Medical Units (MMUs). This
includes conducting medical consultations, diagnosing and treating illnesses,
providing referrals when necessary, and supporting nutrition interventions. The
role also involves conducting nutrition assessments, referring Severe Acute
Malnutrition (SAM) cases to Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFC), and ensuring
high-quality patient care in accordance with national protocols and
international standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Services and Patient Care
- Provide
outpatient consultations and treatment for common illnesses, maternal and
child health conditions, and non-communicable diseases at the SP MMUs in
Qaawa and Mashhor.
- Diagnose
and manage acute and chronic medical conditions and ensure timely referral
of complicated or critical cases.
- Prescribe
and administer medications and therapeutic feeding in accordance with
national protocols and WHO guidelines.
- Maintain
accurate, complete, and confidential patient records in line with
established health facility standards and protocols.
2. Nutrition and Maternal-Child Health Support
- Conduct
routine nutrition screenings and assessments for children under five and
pregnant and lactating women.
- Support
the identification, management, and referral of malnutrition cases through
the TFC and Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP).
- Provide
health education and counseling to caregivers on Infant and Young Child
Feeding (IYCF), hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Coordinate
closely with nutrition teams to ensure integrated and effective health and
nutrition service delivery, including obtaining nutrition and EPI supplies
from the MOPHP.
3. Capacity Building and Supervision
- Provide
technical supervision, mentorship, and on-the-job training to MOPHP
nurses, midwives, and other healthcare staff.
- Ensure
strict adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols
within the MMUs and related facilities.
- Support
the implementation and compliance with clinical guidelines, protocols, and
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
4. Data Collection, Monitoring, and Reporting
- Ensure
accurate and timely collection, documentation, and reporting of health and
nutrition data to the Project Coordinator on a weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc
basis.
- Maintain
updated patient records and contribute to evidence-based decision-making
for program improvement.
- Participate
in disease surveillance, outbreak response, and epidemiological monitoring
activities as required.
5. Pharmaceutical Management and Stock Monitoring
- Monitor
daily consumption of medicines and medical supplies and submit regular
reports to the Project Coordinator.
- Ensure
proper stock management at the Aden SP warehouse, including monitoring
stock levels and ensuring timely replenishment of MMU medical kits.
- Ensure
medicine containers are appropriately prepared, dispatched, and returned
according to established procedures.
- Support
overall pharmaceutical accountability and inventory management.
6. Coordination and Program Support
- Collaborate
with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) and relevant
stakeholders to strengthen service delivery.
- Work
closely with community health volunteers to enhance community-based
healthcare services and referral systems.
- Participate
in program review meetings, health cluster meetings, and coordination
forums as required.
- Provide
technical input to support program planning, implementation, and quality
improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Medical
Degree in Medicine (MBBS) from a recognized institution.
- Valid
medical license to practice in Yemen.
- At
least 5 years of clinical experience, including experience in primary
healthcare, emergency management, and maternal-child health.
- Proven
experience in Therapeutic Feeding Center (TFC) management and treatment of
severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with complications.
- Strong
knowledge of WHO and MoPHP clinical protocols, including infectious
disease management, malnutrition treatment, and maternal health care.
- Experience
in training and supervising health workers is an asset.
- Strong
understanding of health information systems (HIS), medical record-keeping,
and reporting requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience
working in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings.
- Knowledge
of community-based nutrition and health interventions.
- Ability
to work under pressure in resource-limited and challenging environments.
- Fluency
in Arabic (required); English proficiency is an asset.
